Deltek MPM Training

MPM End User Training Course

KM Systems Group’s (KMSG) five day course is designed to introduce the new user to the Deltek MPM Earned Value Management (EVM) system, as well as provide an in-depth understanding on how to utilize the software for EVM analysis and reporting. MPM is a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) based system for managing the complete program management lifecycle of simple to complex programs requiring EVM. The software integrates a sophisticated pricing engine with an EV model to measure program budget, performance, actual expenditures, and estimated completion effort. Students should be familiar with basic project scheduling and earned value management concepts.

This course provides valuable information for EVM Analysts using MPM, Project Controls Administrators, and individuals responsible for estimating or statusing project control data, analyzing output data from an EVMS, or linking schedule data to project control data. The MPM Course includes three modules which may be taught separately depending upon the customer’s requirements.

  1. MPM Basic - This module provides an overview of MPM components. It demonstrates how to create global files, set up security, create an entire project, retrieve and analyze project data, and create and run reports. Students will walk through the typical project management life cycle of setting up the MPM database and structures, initial project budget and schedule planning, ongoing project statusing and analysis, baseline revisions, actual cost collection, and month-end internal management and customer reporting.
  2. MPM Advanced - This module provides an in-depth view of advanced MPM features. It teaches advanced reporting, exporting and importing data, distributed projects, project replanning and what-if analyses, performance data analysis, and weekly earned value.
  3. MPM / MS Project Interface Training for Experienced Users - This course provides an in-depth view of the MS Project to MPM integration features. It teaches cost and schedule integration using the MS Project Link.

Upon completion of this course the student will understand how to:

  • Understand key MPM features and navigation.
  • Creating global information.
  • Planning and updating projects.
  • Reporting and analyzing results.
  • Exporting and importing data.
  • MPM to MS Project interface.
  • Utilize critical EVM information and data to support standard EVM metrics.
  • Use forward-looking performance metrics to enable early problem identification.
  • Utilize EVM to project future cost and schedule performance.

*Pre-requisite: Students are familiar with basic project scheduling and earned value management concepts
